Messages
The Messages tab lets you have private, one-on-one message threads with parents and team members. Each thread has a subject and keeps a full history of messages, including any SMS sent from within the thread.
How to Access
Open the Communication hub and click the Messages tab.

Layout
On desktop, the Messages tab uses a split-pane layout:
- Left pane — Your message threads, sorted by most recent. Each thread shows the recipient's name, the subject, and the date of the last message.
- Right pane — The selected thread showing the full message history and a text input at the bottom.
Starting a New Thread
Click the new message button (speech bubble icon with a plus) at the top of the thread list.

In the modal:
- Add a title — Enter a subject for the thread (required).
- Select a recipient — Choose from the Parents or Team Members tab. Use the search bar to filter by name.
- Click Send to create the thread.
The recipient will be notified by email that they have a new message.
Sending Messages
Select a thread from the list to open it. Type your message in the text area at the bottom and press Ctrl+Enter (or Cmd+Enter on Mac) to send. You can also click the Send button.
Messages you send appear on the right side in blue. Messages from the other person appear on the left in white. Each message shows a timestamp below it, and date separators group messages by day.
SMS from a Thread
If quick SMS is enabled, you can send a one-off text message directly from a thread. Click the SMS icon in the top-right corner of the thread header to open the SMS modal.
SMS messages appear inline in the thread timeline with a green background and an SMS icon, so you can see the full communication history in one place. Note that SMS is one-way — the recipient cannot reply via text.
Archiving Threads
Hover over a thread in the list and click the archive icon to archive it. A confirmation prompt will appear. Archived threads are hidden from the main list but not deleted.
To view archived threads, click the archive toggle button (box icon) at the top of the thread list. From the archived view, click the unarchive icon on a thread to restore it.
Unread Indicators
Threads with unread messages show a blue badge with the unread count next to the thread in the list. Opening a thread automatically marks it as read.
Who Can Message Whom
- Admins and Owners can message any parent or team member at their center.
- Teachers can message parents and other staff.
- Parents can message teachers and staff, but not other parents.
